Movies 'n' Stuff
I love watching movies and I often find I end up remembering a LOT about them, probably that's crazy of me but I love remembering movie lines. Maybe I have just one of those minds.. Anyway, I like to relax by watching movies - it's fun and very enjoyable :)
Since moving to the USA, I have left my collection of videos in England as they are in the PAL video format. I probably will not bring them over. I know of PAL to NTSC video players over here by which to play them but I am more interested now in DVDs and getting the movies I enjoy on DVD :)
Great Movies
Movies that I personally think are great and that I LOVE watching include: Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, True Lies, The Princess Bride, Terminator (1 & 2), anything Monty Python, Jurassic Park, Outbreak, Ransom, Contact, Sixth Sense, Austin Powers (IMOM & TSWSM).
Very Good Movies
Movies that I enjoy watching a lot but I don't think could be considered 'great movies' include: Back to the Future (1, 2 & 3), all of the Star Trek Movies including the Next Generation, Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, The Lost World, Four Rooms, Independence Day, Mission Impossible (1 & 2).
Sucky Movies
We all have our favourites... and we also all have those movies in our mind that just suck SO BAD. Movies that I feel should have been strangled at birth include: Starship Troopers, Mission To Mars. The most heinous of these has to be Starship Troopers though. Annoying cast, stupid story, plot/technical contradictions within itself ... arrgh!
TV
Something I've heard said about the USA is that 'the quality of the TV is SO BAD compared to the UK'. This can be true in some respects (for some shows) but as a generalisation it's wrong. I've actually got used to having satellite TV now so the choice of shows is great. Cable and satellite in the UK haven't taken off nearly as much as they have in the USA and the prices reflect that. I love watching the Discovery channels (TLC etc.) and sometimes the network stations (ABC, FOX, CBS, NBC) have interesting/funny stuff on too. So no, I don't think I do too bad for TV and it's great to have the choice (even in the regular broadcast stations) of more than 4 channels :)
One of the best things about satellite TV is having HBO / Showtime etc. for movies so I can indulge my movie viewing needs there too :)
