 Internet Chat Acronyms
'Net Chat Acronyms
There are many different acronyms in use on the Internet when using chat programs or email or posting on message boards. Use of these is basically down to laziness and they come about because a certain phrase can often be reduced to an acronym fairly easily. I know myself that I use them a lot and sometimes it's hard to write a message without using them once you've been used to typing them in place of the words themselves :)
An example of these acronyms is given below:
Letters (and their corresponding word) sometimes appear in brackets if that letter (and therefore word) can be omitted from that acronym, i.e. IM(H)O could be IMHO (In My Honest Opinion) or IMO (In My Opinion).

This is by no means a definitive list, there are many more out there and people make up new ones all the time. :)
